| Longboat
Key, Florida is a narrow stretch of barrier island only about 11 miles
long bordered by the beautiful Gulf of Mexico on one side and Sarasota Bay
on the other. |
| Outdoor
recreational activities include swimming, shelling, fishing, water skiing,
parasailing, boating and tennis. Longboat Key has two championship golf
courses, with over 50 more in nearby Sarasota and Bradenton. Bikers and
rollerbladers enjoy Longboat Key’s ten-mile bike path that winds along
Gulf of Mexico Drive. Boat charters, with or without a captain, are
available and the azure Gulf waters offer plenty of opportunities for
scuba diving, snorkeling and deep sea fishing. Just off the south end of
Longboat Key is the Mote Marine Aquarium. This center offers a fascinating
look at sea life, and is also a marine research center and lab. There is a
30-foot touch tank and a 135,000-gallon shark tank. The Ann and Alfred
Goldstein Marine Mammal Research Center has displays on manatees, dolphins
and whales. |
